These lovely baskets feature leather handles and are hand woven from sisal by Akamba women in the Machakos region in Kenya. Each piece is laboriously crafted from hand twisted sisal in the traditional Wakamba method of open weaving.
The coloration is achieved by using nature's own colorant such as mango leaf, tree bark, and plant roots.
These unique baskets are given as gifts to the bride during the Akamba community traditional wedding ceremonies. The sisal baskets are woven by the bride's grandmother or aunt.
